Say It Ain't So.

It's that time again. Macworld 2007 has landed in San Francisco and the city's normally subdued Mac geek community has emerged from behind closed doors, frothing at the mouth over Apple's latest offering. I know, because I'm one of them. Man, do I want that phone.

For the third year in a row, I've been fortunate enough to produce the "Office Originals" video for Microsoft's Mac Business Unit trade show exhibit at Macworld, on behalf of Landor Associates. This got me an all-access pass to the exhibits, but my badge has left me a little confused as to who I work for. Click to see...

G5 Convergence

Yup. That's 16 2.0 Ghz G5 Processors, with 3D artist Steven McEuen at the helm.

On a recent project, the decision to shoot HD, in addition to rendering and compositing complex 3D virtual sets, meant that several CPUs were going to need to work simultaneously if we were to meet an already tight deadline. In order to avoid the hassle and expense of outsourcing the work we connected every machine we could get our hands on via a LAN, and used distributed computing software to process all the keyed live-action HD footage, generate all the 3D elements, and handle all the final compositing in days instead of weeks.

I'm not really sure you can have a Minisupercomputer. Don't the "mini" and the "super" just cancel each other out and render the computer defenseless without it's super powers?

I find the term Veryspecialcomputer more appropriate in this case.

Minisuper!
